"Seeing and Being Seen", self-portraits from The One Show Photo Workshop in Shanghai November 2008.

Feeling our existence extending  beyond the boundaries of our own skin and bones, each self-portrait had three elements, first,  the view from the inside out: the way we experience the world; second,  the view from the outside: the way the world experiences us; and the third we expressed not as a photograph but in the medium of written language, our own reflection on the relation of the first two.

  • Am I a man dreaming of One Big Blue Ocean World. 是我做梦变成了大洋 Or am I One Big Blue Ocean World dreaming I am a man? 还是大洋做梦变成了我?
  • The rumor has it that I could be a gifted poet, but the Muse has no interest in me, I can't write, not right now. You all, please continue what you are doing, Don't worry, I am here not to shoot you, I'm just making some pictures, that's all KongKong required of us.
  • When depressed or lost we all need a way to let it out, be it mumbling or cursing, just let it out!
  • The Highest Good is like water, it nourishes everything but asks for nothing.
  • My reflection and I, I and me, and the exit for Heaven is right here.
  • SX44-L4 I am sure nobody will tell me what it means, nobody ever stops and stays, they just walk by, always in a hurry.

  • Oh rotting fruit of youth, the past is like this smoke, only visible as it evaporates.
  • The west wind has frozen all the leaves overnight. Alone again, I climb to the top of the cold mansion and see beyond the hills.
  • I am not the criminal.
  • My heart is chained, I am a helpless child confined in a narrow space, I have tried to get free, but I am without hope. My camera in hand, I let my eyes take hold of my heart and fly away.
  • The camera is my basketball.
  • Flowers abandoned in the garbage, color and fragrance fading but still seducing me.
  • You may think of me, and think there is no telephone number, no address, no way to make contact, but I am standing right here, just a glance away.
  • Something must have happened here, it used to be a vast wilderness. The wind has blown everything away; now there is just me standing here.
  • Full of noise and color, this is the real world, but in my heart, there is another world, one where sincere feelings dwell, and my childhood lives but there is no return.
  • Buddha sits on the lotus. I sit on the bamboo. I am the master of my life.
  • I see, I move, I shoot, Remembering the joys of parenthood, I am connected to everyone.
  • My city, my people, my fate.
  • There is nobody under you because you're not special enough.
  • Is it certain that we will arrive at our destination sooner if we drive a faster car?
  • I won't run! Catch me if you can!
  • My grandmother believes big eyes mean good luck. My eyes are big, my grandma is proud of them. Now I look at this city, but not with my eyes, I look with my heart, where good luck really comes from.
  • The master has a peaceful heart, Oh master, don't leave, my only desire in this secular world, is to take a picture of you and me.
  • A suit is a cage, binding our body and our heart. "Just do it!" says Nike. And it's true, there's nothing to bind you if you've got enough balls to step out of the damn suit.
  • I get lost in this concrete world, but beside this old door where the color has faded I've found my way home.
  • I walked by alone leaving my memory.
  • I imagine that this world has no wars, that time is standing still, and I like a melody, am flowing through.
  • Dancing Haibao looks like a condom. Stupid! (Haibo=Expo Logo)
  • Forward and back, forward and back, with you by my side, I will never feel tired.
