"Seeing and Being Seen", self-portraits from The One Show Photo Workshop in Shanghai November 2008.



Feeling our existence extending  beyond the boundaries of our own skin and bones, each self-portrait had three elements, first,  the view from the inside out: the way we experience the world; second,  the view from the outside: the way the world experiences us; and the third we expressed not as a photograph but in the medium of written language, our own reflection on the relation of the first two.

  • My grandmother believes big eyes mean good luck. My eyes are big, my grandma is proud of them. Now I look at this city, but not with my eyes, I look with my heart, where good luck really comes from.
  • The master has a peaceful heart, Oh master, don't leave, my only desire in this secular world, is to take a picture of you and me.
  • A suit is a cage, binding our body and our heart. "Just do it!" says Nike. And it's true, there's nothing to bind you if you've got enough balls to step out of the damn suit.
